The Brand X Story
Hello all, and thank you in advance for taking the time to read our story!
My name is Don, I'm a USAF veteran and hard core jig fisherman. For over 50 years I've had the opportunity to live, hunt and fish in some amazing places and once upon a time I owned and operated a full service marina on LAKE SEMINOLE where I fished semi-pro tournaments and ran a guide service on the lake. That was about 25 years ago , when the lake was rated as the # 5 Best Bass fishery in the country.
Lake Seminole was full of gators and snakes, floating islands and miles of backwater slew areas all surrounded by a sea of hydrilla. In the midst of all this mess lived some of the biggest, baddest, monster bass you can imagine. My biggest problem was reaching through that thick Hydrilla mat which coincidentally was made even thicker when the Corp of Engineers would draw down water.
That is where the idea for the Hybrid XP was hatched. And like most newborn hatchlings it was pretty ugly in the beginning and remained so for a number of years. I had determined it was about getting the weight down through the mat where these fish lived, and then being able to reel it back to the boat and into the livewell. Most of us have caught one in this slop, but the odds on making it to the livewell? Not good!
The lightbulb went off for me while I was pre-fishing a tournament. I had been on good fish until the Corp lowered the lake level. I was getting pretty frustrated with all that addition grass, and said to myself, "If I throw a kitchen sink in there it'll hit the bottom." and eventually "What provides the best and most consistent hookset?"
A number of years - and many redesigns later - I think you'll find I finally succeeded in hitting all those high points: The Hybrid X. Yes, it catches fish. But more importantly it will boost your odds at boating them. I'll save the how and why of why it works for another page.
Best regards and tight lines,
Don Babcock, Pres.
